TIPS FOR A GOOD RESUME FOR BELGIUM
APPLYING FOR A JOB IN ANOTHER COUNTRY HAS CONSEQUENCES FOR YOUR RESUME
A CV can have a maximum of 2 pages.
Don’t forget to mention the country code with your telephone number.
You start your CV with your personal data, followed by the summary of your diplomas . If you do not have the right diplomas, but you can back up
your application with any work experience in a similar job, you can mention it in this part. Start with the latest work experience.
Ask your educational institution for the correct translation of your title so that it can be compared with Belgian titles. NARIC is the Belgian authority,
which examines with which level / degree your diploma matches in Belgium.
The Belgian companies do not know all educational institutions in your home country, so the name of the title is more important than the name of
the educational institution. Do not use abbreviations.
Do you have work experience at a local company? Then focus on your work experience and less on the name and address of your previous
employer.
Belgian companies like a structured layout with sufficient white space, striking interim titles and short sentences.
1 or 2 references are always interesting. Inform your references that you include them in your resume!
Share your language skills in speaking - comprehension - writing. Insight into your language skills is important for a job abroad.
You must always explain the breaks in your resume. As long as you are honest and emphasize your strengths, a gap in your CV can not be a
hindrance!

FAQs
What are the working conditions in Belgium?
They can vary depending the workplace. Negotiations can be made about the specific employment conditions. In all cases, the salary scales, the working
hours, the overtime scheme, the pension and dismissal scheme are protected by the Collective Labour Agreements enforced by law. The basic wage is
therefore the same for every employee (Belgian or foreigner) working in the same industry.
What is the standard of living in Belgium?
The standard of living is high, but the wages are correspondingly. Foreign workers receive the same wages as the Belgians. A rate has been set by the
government.
Is an employment contract guaranteed after completing the Dutch course?
The employer is directly involved in the selection procedure. The employer decides whether you should follow the Dutch course or not. Normally a contract
will follow the Dutch course. If for any reason the employment contract is not ultimately signed with this employer, we will offer other possibilities.
Do I have to pay for the Dutch language course?
Normally the course is due when it is a requirement for the employer, and therefore the course is free of charge for you. Naturally, the course is accessible
to anyone who is looking for a job in Belgium or the Netherlands and wants to study the Dutch language. In this case it is not free of charge.
Are there additional costs that I have to take into account?
Translating your documents for the recognition of your diploma is a cost, but can be recuperated by the European authority, provided you are maximum 35
years old and have European nationality. If there is a selection interview in Belgium, you have to take into account the cost of a plane ticket and
accommodation costs. But these cost can be refunded as well. We help you with the application for the recovery of these costs. Until now we did not have
any problem for refunding.
Is there a possibility to specialize in Belgium or to take additional training?
Belgium has a good education system, and it is accessible to foreign students, provided you have the level of B2 of the Dutch language. There are
Universities for academical training programmes. There are Colleges for more practical training programmes. There are also evening schools for adults.
There are no entry exams (except for doctor study). In Belgium, everybody has access to education.
If I speak French, do I have to follow the Dutch course?
You can work with a knowledge of French in Wallonia, the southern part of Belgium. Some of our partners have a department in Wallonia and we can submit
your CV to them. At the moment, however, knowledge of the Dutch language offers more possibilities. If you speak French and Dutch, your future potential
will be much higher.
How do I know that this proposal of contract with a free language course is not fraud?
We have years of experience with placing healthcare professionals from Southern European countries. We have an excellent reputation within the Belgian
healthcare sector. There are testimonies available from different care takers. Moreover, you will have contact with your employer from the beginning and
you will be signing a contract directly with your employer.
Concerning the medical profiles: do you offer a contract in the public or private sector?
In Belgium there is no difference between the public and the private sector. Everyone has access to all healthcare institutions. This makes the sector very
competitive and high levelled. The wages of nurses, for example, are fully paid by the government.
Concerning the medical profiles: can I choose the residential care centre where I will work?
You can indicate your preferences However, we cannot guarantee that your preference will be chosen.
Do I have to have any prior knowledge of the Dutch language?
No, you start from zero. No prior knowledge is required.
Can you help my partner find a job in Belgium?
Yes, we always do, because we strongly believe that you can only be happy in another country if the people you live with are happy. We also helping in
finding a school or day-care for your children.
If my partner is also a nurse, can we apply together?
We encourage partners to work together in Belgium. Going together is an advantage. We will negotiate with the residential care centre so that both can work
at the same premises.
How many courses are there?
There are 3 courses per year. These courses start in January, April and September.
Concerning the medical profiles: if I have been chosen to go to Belgium, is my place in the language course guaranteed?
When you are selected, we will send you a commitment agreement, stating that you will follow the language course in Spain and that you afterwards will
have a job in Belgium. Once this compromise is signed, your place in the language course is guaranteed.
